What is a Nutrition & Health Coach?
Asking this question to 10 different people will result in 10 different answers. So instead of boring you with a specific definition, we will just tell you what it means for us and how we can support you in your health journey.
Our goal is to support you in becoming your healthiest self, through lifestyle and habit changes. We will start with the pantry analysis in which we will take a look at your pantry and provide you with a thorough report on the healthiness of the items in your pantry.
In our coaching sessions we will take this report as the starting point, and in our first meeting we will discuss your goals. And if you feel comfortable, it would be great if you can share what you already tried and what did and didn’t work for you, so we can take this into account. From there we will define (small) steps for you to take and in some cases, this will lead to some ‘homework’. We will discuss your progress on these steps during our next call. Some examples of steps we could possibly define depending on your goals; slowly decrease your intake of certain products, changing several items in your pantry for healthier options, eliminating certain items etc.
It is important to note that we focus on creating healthy habits and for this we focus on the positives and not the negatives. In our accountability calls we therefore focus on these positives as well; what are you proud of, what did work for you etc.
There are certain things that you won’t get from working with us, one is a one-size fits all step plan and/or diet. We call it a journey for a purpose, as we strongly believe a quick weight loss fix, or a specific diet is not going to work long-term. It has to be a lifestyle change and a journey to find what suits you best. To place this in perspective, when we decided to strive for a healthier lifestyle it took us over 2 years to find the balance of nutrition and exercise that worked for us. We have tried a lot of lifestyles out there, no-carb, low-carb, no-sugar, vegan, and paleo, and from all these we have taken with us what worked and build our own lifestyle around that. It took this long as we did not have any guidance or support. We had to educate ourselves along the way. That is the main reason we started The Pantry Doctor; to provide you with the right tools and support to make this journey a lot easier and shorter.
In line with above, we don’t provide you with standard meal plans for you to follow. If you would like our support in meal ideas, we are absolutely open for that! Together we can look at your pantry analysis discuss which items you like to use and which ones you would be open to replace for healthier options and what meals you could make with those items. We strive for a 90/10 rule, which means 90% of the time healthy and 10% fun foods. And in our sessions, we will discuss what works best for you.
